Dairy Queen BOGO Blizzard Deal: How the 99 Cent Offer Actually Works

BOGO BLIZZARD DEAL. HOW IT ACTUALLY WORKS

This is a different kind of post than most of what I write, since I’m covering a deal rather than a menu item. I’ve now tracked this specific promotion through two separate runs this year, which let me confirm what actually stays consistent about it versus what changes, instead of describing a single instance as if it’s a permanent, fixed offer.

Read this first: This deal is not permanent and is not currently running as I’m writing this. It’s a recurring seasonal promotion DQ brings back several times a year, not a standing feature of the menu. Check the DQ app to confirm whether it’s active before planning around it.

What the deal actually is

Buy one Blizzard Treat, get a second one of equal or lesser value for 99 cents. It’s redeemed through the DQ app or in person at participating locations, and it requires a free DQ Rewards account. I’ve seen it run under the name “Blizzard Double Flip” in one instance and without a specific name in another, but the underlying mechanics have stayed identical both times I’ve checked: 99 cents for the second Blizzard, once per day, Mini and Royal Blizzards excluded from qualifying.

The real math

Using DQ’s standard Blizzard pricing, here’s what the deal actually saves depending on which size you pair:

PairingNormal priceWith the dealSavings
Two Mediums$10.58$6.28$4.30 (41%)
Two Larges$11.98$6.98$5.00 (42%)
Two Dairy Queen Blizzard treats side by side for the BOGO deal
Pairing two of the same, largest size gets more total treat for the same discounted price than mixing sizes does.

The optimization most people miss

The discount always applies to whichever Blizzard is the lesser value of the two, not a fixed item. That means pairing a Large with a Small doesn’t actually help you, the Small becomes the 99 cent item either way, and you end up with $6.98 total spent for one Large and one Small. Pair two Larges instead, and that same $6.98 gets you two Larges, since with equal-priced items either one can be treated as the “lesser value” side of the deal. Mixing sizes doesn’t get you a better rate on the bigger item, it just wastes the deal’s ceiling on whichever size you paired it with. If you’re going to use this deal at all, matching sizes, and going as large as you’re willing to eat, gets you the most out of it.

The pattern across the two times I’ve actually seen this run

The first instance I found ran from late March through late April, timed to a seasonal Blizzard collection launch. The second ran through most of August, again timed to a seasonal transition, that one specifically leading into this year’s fall lineup. Both instances used the same core terms: 99 cents for the second Blizzard, DQ Rewards required, once per day, Mini and Royal excluded. I also found a reference to an $0.85 version of essentially the same offer from a different year, which tells me the exact discount amount isn’t perfectly fixed either, 99 cents is the version I’ve seen most consistently, but treat that cents figure as typical rather than guaranteed if you’re checking during a future run.

How to actually check if it’s running right now

Since there’s no fixed, publicly announced calendar for exactly when this comes back, the DQ app’s Deals tab is the reliable source, the same tool I’ve already covered for checking DQ Rewards points and other app-exclusive offers. If you don’t see it there, it likely isn’t currently active, rather than being something you’re missing due to account setup. A few sources I checked also noted that a newly created Rewards account can take up to 24 hours before deals display, worth knowing if you just signed up specifically to check.

Terms worth knowing before you plan around it

  • Once per day: the discount is per-transaction, not a stockpile-able coupon.
  • Mini and Royal Blizzards don’t qualify: both instances I checked excluded these specifically.
  • DQ Rewards account required: free to join, but not something you can use as a first-time or guest order.
  • Redeemable via app or in person: both instances allowed either, though I’d confirm this hasn’t changed for whatever run you catch it during.

What I’d actually do

  • Check the app’s Deals tab directly rather than assuming this is currently active based on this post or any other source describing a past run.
  • Pair two of the same, largest size you’re willing to order to get the most value out of the discount rather than mixing sizes.
  • Don’t wait for an exact announced date: based on what I’ve tracked, this recurs around seasonal transitions, but not on a schedule I could confirm precisely enough to predict.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Dairy Queen BOGO Blizzard deal still active?

Not as of this writing. It’s a recurring seasonal promotion, not a permanent offer, and I’ve tracked it running in two separate windows this year, late March through late April, and again through most of August. Check the DQ app’s Deals tab to confirm current availability.

How does the Dairy Queen BOGO Blizzard deal work?

Buy one Blizzard Treat at regular price and get a second one of equal or lesser value for 99 cents, redeemable once per day through the DQ app or in person with a free DQ Rewards account. Mini and Royal Blizzards are excluded.

What size Blizzard should I order for the BOGO deal?

Pair two of the same, largest size you’re comfortable ordering. The discount always applies to whichever item is the lesser value, so mixing a large with a small just wastes the deal’s ceiling on the smaller item instead of maximizing what you get for the discounted price.

See standard pricing for every size at my full Blizzard price breakdown, or check current flavors on the full menu page.
