Dairy Queen Value Menu: Every Item Under $5

Value Menu · Full Data Pull

We didn’t guess at a “top 10 cheap items” list we filtered our own full 75-item Dairy Queen menu database for everything priced under $5, then ranked what’s actually left by calories and protein per dollar. 38 items made the cut. Here’s the complete list, plus which ones are genuinely the best value and which are just cheap.

Quick note before the numbers: Dairy Queen is almost entirely franchisee-owned, so these are national-average prices your local DQ may run a little higher or lower on any of these.

That’s over half the entire menu — 38 of 75 items — sitting under $5, spread across every category except Tex-Mex and DQ Cakes (neither of which has a naturally small enough format to land under that price point).

Broken down by category, Classic Treats has the most sub-$5 options (9), followed by Drinks (8) and the burger/sandwich lineup (7). If you’re specifically trying to stay under $5 and want variety rather than the same corn dog every time, Classic Treats is the section with the most room to pick something different each visit.

The real value pick: it’s not the one you’d guess

Running calories-per-dollar and protein-per-dollar across all 38 items produces the same #1 answer both times: the Cheese Corn Dog, at $1.99 for 300 calories and roughly 14g of protein. That works out to about 151 calories and 7 grams of protein per dollar spent — the best of anything on the under-$5 board, on both measures at once. It’s not the item most “value menu” lists lead with, probably because it doesn’t sound as exciting as a Blizzard, but the numbers are the numbers.

Best calories per dollarRate
Cheese Corn Dog151 cal/$1
Buster Bar150 cal/$1
Chocolate Shake (Medium)148 cal/$1
French Fries (Large)143 cal/$1
Strawberry Shake (Medium)143 cal/$1
Best protein per dollarRate
Cheese Corn Dog7.0g/$1
Hamburger5.8g/$1
Cheeseburger5.6g/$1
Biscuit & Gravy5.5g/$1
Crispy Chicken Sandwich5.2g/$1

Worth noticing: the calorie-per-dollar leaders are almost all sweet/fried items (corn dog, Buster Bar, shakes, fries) — items where sugar or oil pack in calories cheaply. The protein-per-dollar leaders skew toward the burger lineup instead, since meat protein doesn’t come cheap no matter which chain sells it. If you’re budgeting for fullness rather than raw calories, the Hamburger and Cheeseburger are the more honest picks than anything from the treats side.

Don’t skip the BOGO deal

The 99¢ BOGO Blizzard promo (via the DQ app) is the single cheapest item on this entire list, and it’s not even close — but it only works as a second item on top of a full-price Blizzard, so it doesn’t function as a standalone “under $5” pick the way everything else here does. If you’re already getting a Blizzard, though, it’s the best deal on the board, full stop. Dates and eligible flavors rotate, so check the app before counting on it.

Stack two for a meal under $10

A handful of genuinely satisfying combos fit two items from this list comfortably under $10 total: a Cheeseburger ($3.59) plus Large Fries ($3.29) comes to $6.88, or a Crispy Chicken Sandwich ($4.79) plus a Small Blizzard ($4.49) comes to $9.28 for a full meal-plus-dessert.
